Maplewood Participates in Community Garden Day
News

The Twin Cities has named Saturday, Aug. 6 Community Garden Day and participating gardens are celebrating by inviting the public to take self guided tours of garden grounds from 9 a.m. to noon.

Maplewood's own Harvest Gardens is one of those gardens. They will be hosting guided tours from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Aug. 6.

Guests are invited to wander through the 900 plus plots and learn about the land and organization.

Harvest Gardens is self described as a community building project that services the homeless, refugees and neighbors.

Harvest Gardens said that what started as a 16 acre community outreach program by the First Evangelical Free Church in 2004 has grown to be gardens of over 900 plots and 450 gardeners working to service the community.

Community Garden Day is sponsored by Gardening Matters, a non-profit organization that works to keep community gardens thriving.

Harvest Garden is one of the roughly 50 gardens participating in Community Garden Day.

It is located at County Road C and Hazelwood in Maplewood, one block from the First Evangelical Free Church.
